Lung Cancer Screening
The Lung Cancer Screening programme, formerly known as the Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) service, aims to diagnose lung cancer at an earlier stage to improve patient outcomes. The programme targets an eligible cohort of residents aged 55–74 years across Sussex.
Brighton & Hove Federation (B&HF) plays a key role in the administration and review of patients within the TLHC programme for primary care, including onward referral where appropriate. This is a Sussex-wide contract, and so far the programme has covered Brighton & Hove, Hastings, and Horsham.
How the programme works:
- InHealth invites eligible patients for a lung health check, assesses their risk, and refers them for a CT scan in a local community setting.
- Heart & Lung Health Ltd (HLH) reports on the CT scans, with results sent to the Trusts’ PACS system.
- The Trust TLHC team reviews patients flagged by HLH during a screening multidisciplinary meeting (MDM) and manages onward referrals.
- B&HF oversees patient administration and review throughout the TLHC programme, ensuring timely follow-up and referrals where needed.
This structured approach ensures early detection, streamlined patient management, and better outcomes for those at risk of lung cancer.
- If you are a patient and have a query about an existing CT scan appointment, please contact: 01293 363 732.
- If you have received a text message after your scan containing a diagnosis or instructions for further action and would like more information, please contact your GP practice to discuss.
